The souqs and markets are the focus of this tour of Taroudant; although smaller in scale than Marrakesh, each has its own distinct atmosphere and focus. The Arab souq, leading off the Place Assarag in the heart of the medina, is the place for traditional arts and crafts: silverware, leather, traditional jewellery and so on. The lanes are narrow and covered and its reminiscent of the Marrakesh souqs. The Berber souq, slightly deeper into the medina, is a more everyday affair selling meat, vegetables and spices: the colours and smells make it an interesting place to wander around. You’ll get the chance to visit the ramparts and if you ask your guide you can visit the tanneries as well – if you can stand the smell!
