A short walk from the noise, sights and smells of Taroudant’s souqs, and in the heart of the walled city, is Dar Zahia, a stylish yet traditional retreat. Faithfully decorated in local fashion, with rammed-earth walls and Berber decorative motifs and artefacts, the sophistication comes from the use of muted whites and creams in the linens and fabrics. There is a small garden in the riad courtyard, and 10 minutes away by bicycle (which the hotel will provide) is their large garden and olive grove. A wonderful place to relax it also boasts a 32 metre swimming lane (it’s too narrow to be called a pool!) painted in a cobalt blue mirroring the famous Jardin Majorelle in Marrakesh.
